The Shire team has in-depth experience and understanding of practical maintenance and the challenges faced by engineers in the workplace. This, together with software price leadership and support that's second to none, makes for that huge ‘Shire difference'.
The full knowledge and experience of the Shire team are entirely at your disposal. You might want extra resources for a CMMS project, or maybe you're looking for our short-and-sharp input for half a day - or perhaps you'd just like to run something past us over the phone. Whatever your need, concern or uncertainty about maintenance or service management, ask us - we're here to help you in any way we can.
Implementation workshop
The best way to kick off your FrontLine implementation is to complete a one-day Implementation Workshop directly after attending a FrontLine training course. The Workshop gives you a flying start and provides a solid foundation on which you can build both your own and your organisation's success.
Our Implementation Workshop is completely customised to your individual needs. We work alongside you and key members of your team to firm up on crucial decisions - the system reports you'll need to gain control of equipment and maintenance activities, the best initial system configuration, and an implementation roadmap, identifying the first actions to take back in the workplace. You can really hit the ground running.
Implementation Workshops are generally held at our principal Learning Centre in Southampton. Workshops can also be held at your own premises.
Completing an assisted Workshop puts you on track for an effective, rapid and right-first-time CMMS implementation - delivering immediate and on-going bottom line gains for your organisation. The payback is very quick indeed.
When you're back at base, you can also call us anytime for further implementation advice.

System Implementation
Besides the Implementation Workshop, Shire can provide more extensive services to guide and assist you through the precarious system implementation stage. Whether you want to tackle your implementation project intensively or in bite-sized chunks phased in over a period, we can help you get things done effectively and efficiently.
For instance, we can help you:
- Explore your strategic and operational requirements and firm up on the best options for setting up your CMMS
- Set up a pilot scheme to test-drive, optimise and prove the proposed solution
- Assist with the capture and input of data
- Convert data from other systems, spreadsheets, etc, into your Shire application - data cleansing, translation and migration
- Plan and facilitate the implementation of your system
We know maintenance management and our own software back-to-front, inside-out and sideways - and we know how to apply it to achieve business success in every sector. We offer you the quickest and most cost-effective means of achieving maximum returns from your Shire system.
System performance review - Health Check
After you've been using your Shire system for a time, some things will inevitably have changed from when you first set it up. You may have had staff or organisational changes, your business requirements may be different - or it could be that the capabilities of the software have been enhanced in a later version that you may or may not be using.
We can:
- Review the way you're using your system
- Resolve any current difficulties
- Propose ways of satisfying your latest requirements and aspirations
- Recommend changes to the way the software is being used and your operating procedures and working practices
- Assist with the re-working of your existing system data to align it with updated requirements
It's a good idea to periodically take a fresh look at your system-in-use to satisfy yourself that it's fulfilling the organisation's current needs, you're gaining the best benefit from the available functionality - and things are easiest for you. These short-and-sharp reviews - coupled with system performance improvements - are self-financing and pay back hands down.

Compliance and preventive maintenance plan development
We can assist you to put in place comprehensive, fit-for-purpose task plans for equipment basic care and planned preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance and on-condition monitoring - including tasks to achieve regulatory compliance and demonstrate due diligence. The program can be as basic or comprehensive as your organisation's current needs demand.
For each significant asset, we can help you decide the appropriate degree of maintenance review and intervention - Level 1, 2 or 3 - in consideration of its operational criticality and vulnerability.
If you don't have an effective planned preventive maintenance program in place, you can never gain control of equipment failure and your organisation will continue to operate in some chaos. This is just an inescapable fact of life.
The assurance of equipment health and the prevention of disruptive failure - by means of basic care, early detection of distress and early repair of defects - is the prime intent of asset maintenance management. Unfortunately, it's the most poorly addressed part of it. Equipment-related production and service delivery deficiencies arise almost universally from failure to formulate and apply an adequate equipment care, routine inspection and maintenance task plan.
When properly implemented, planned preventive maintenance is self-financing and performance-transforming. It provides amazing returns in terms of equipment availability, product and service quality, Health & Safety, environmental protection, employee morale and optimal operating costs. In a nutshell, it's a profit driver and maximiser. It's impossible to give too much management attention to it. Once you get control of equipment failure - and aren't being swamped with reactive tasks - continuous improvement becomes a piece of cake.
A properly devised PM programme will ensure increased equipment availability and reliability - delivering higher MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure), reduced MTTR (Mean Time To Repair), higher OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), regulatory compliance and lower operating costs and risk exposure. You will start saving money immediately and can easily recover your investment in 3 to 6 months.

Asset registration
Shire offers an asset registration service. When you have many assets, initial registration can be a huge undertaking and is often best done with extra assistance. With our Asset Data Collector software and a combination of site survey and information extraction from documents, we can rapidly compile an asset register which is as comprehensive or as basic as your needs require.
With FrontLine, it's important to note that you don't need to register all your maintenance-demanding assets during system set-up. You can build your asset register 'as you go' - logging assets as arising events direct maintenance attention to them. This pragmatic approach can be quite acceptable. However, many organisations prefer to take the opportunity of CMMS implementation to compile a comprehensive asset register as part of the initial system set-up activities. It may be that the organisation's top management, Financial Controller, insurance company - or regulatory requirements, like those of Turnbull and Sarbanes Oxley - determine that this approach is the one to follow.

Asset identification labelling
We can help you with both asset data collection and labelling. Besides conventional labels, we can supply barcode labels and RFID tags (Radio Frequency IDentification) which will enable you to operate with no, or minimal, maintenance paperwork in the field.
Clear labelling of maintainable equipment is crucial for effective operational communication and should be an essential part of your maintenance management provisions. Failure to correctly identify an item of equipment when reporting a defect or preparing a Permit to Work doesn't just waste time, it can have very serious consequences. Failure to provide for proper equipment identification could well be a legal violation and so should not be abandoned to chance.
Back to TopSoftware installation
Installation of new software systems and updates is generally straightforward, but you might need us to:
- Help you decide how to deploy your software and resolve any problems with your network infrastructure
- Advise on the options for installing the software under different environments
- Visit your site to carry out the installation
Software customisation
Although Shire software is designed as a comprehensive 'out of the box' solution, there may be exceptional cases where you need something that's not included. For specialised requirements, which may not be appropriate for the mainstream application, we can:
- Develop special interfaces to allow data to flow between your Shire applications and your other systems
- Create special reports, outside the standard range provided by the software
